Damian Priest, whose in-ring style contains several tributes to the late Scott Hall, recently shared the story of how he personally asked the WWE Hall of Famer for his blessing to use the iconic “Razor’s Edge” and his signature “drip” gear. Speaking on Cody Rhodes’ “What Do You Wanna Talk About?” podcast, Priest recounted his memorable and slightly intimidating interactions with his idol.
Priest explained that Razor Ramon was the character that first made him feel represented as a Latino wrestling fan. When he finally got to meet Hall years later in NXT, he was initially shy, but eventually approached him. “I went up to and, you know, we had long conversations about stuff… I was like, ‘Hey, would you mind if I did a few things that you do?’” Priest recalled. “And it started with the walk, which I didn’t even know how to name. And he told me what, the surfer walk.”
Priest then asked about using Hall’s famous crucifix powerbomb finisher. “The Razor’s Edge was the big one. And I was like, ‘Would you mind if I did the Razor’s Edge?’ He was like, ‘Well, people do it.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, but they don’t call it the Razor’s Edge… I want to do the Razor’s Edge.’ And he goes, ‘That’s cool.’”
Later, he also asked about incorporating the “blood drip” design from Hall’s nWo-era gear into his own look. This time, Hall decided to have some fun with Priest by calling over Kevin Nash. “Scott looks at me. He goes, ‘Bro, anything that reminds people of us and makes us look good we’re gonna be down for.’ And I was like, ‘I’ll always try to make you look good dog.’ And it was one of the coolest things,” Priest shared. “And to this day, I’ll cherish all our little moments that we had together.”
