Daniel Bryan is officially out of WWE Crown Jewel, replacement announced

An in-ring face-to-face confrontation between WWE Champion AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan kicked off this week's episode of SmackDown Live.

Going into the show, the word had spread online that Bryan was would not be flying to Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel. The question was how WWE would explain the situation to fans watching on the USA Network. During the opening segment on SmackDown Live, Bryan said he would take the WWE Championship from Styles this Friday at Crown Jewel. Styles said there was no need to wait for Crown Jewel and he would defend the title on tonight's show. The match request was granted by Smackdown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon.

In a match that went over 30 minutes, Bryan tapped out to the Calf Crusher and Styles retained his title. Samoa Joe, who has been out with an undisclosed injury, returned and attacked Styles. Joe also attacked Bryan's "wounded" leg and choked him out. Later in the show, GM Paige officially made the match...Styles vs. Joe at Crown Jewel.
