Daniel Bryan was on Sam Roberts’ Wrestling Podcast to promote Sunday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. As usual with previous interviews, he is fun to listen to because of his honesty.
Among other things, Bryan also talked about being cleared to return shortly before WrestleMania. He talked about flying to Dallas, Texas from Dubai, India and then flying to Pittsburgh, PA and getting cleared to return. “I found out I was cleared at 9:30 pm on a Monday. Smackdown Live went on at 8 pm so it was less than 24 hours. I was getting punched in the face probably in 24 hours and 15 minutes after I was cleared.” He noted that he would do regular training but he wasn’t training for a return but luckily he maintains his cardio so it wasn’t a problem for him to get back in the ring on short notice.
On his thoughts on wrestling a full-schedule: “I don’t wanna do a full schedule and I think WWE has been very gracious in working with me to not do a complete schedule.” Bryan said that the company has some shows that they would prefer him to be on but they give him the time off so he can be at home with his family. Bryan said that he likes 50-100 matches per year but it might turn into a little bit more because of the nature of WWE’s schedule and he realizes that fans want to see him. Bryan said that he has “no interest” in wrestling 200 matches in a year again and WWE is working with him.
Bryan was asked if the chances are highly likely that he would sign with WWE. He said, “IÂ think at this point it’s 90 plus percent…I will say it’s likely I will sign with WWE.” He added, “The reality is that’s the probability. I have not re-signed yet but it could happen as soon as the end of this week or it could be a couple more weeks. It’s very likely.”
Dave Meltzer has been saying for weeks that his contract negotiations are a little bit complicated but he expects Bryan to sign a new deal so don’t expect to him popping up at All In, New Japan Pro Wrestling or anywhere else in the near future.
Bryan also talks about his role in story mode for WWE 2K19, his feud with The Miz, and much more. You can listen to the podcast by clicking below:
