UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is a huge WWE fan. In fact, before getting scheduled to fight at this weekend’s UFC 230 pay-per-view, “DC” was set to participate in a WWE tryout for commentary. However, that will be pushed back until after Cormier wraps up his obligations inside the Octagon.
Recently, Cormier joined “Busted Open Radio” to promote his upcoming heavyweight title defense against Derrick Lewis from Madison Square Garden. During their conversation, Cormier detailed the comparisons between storytelling in the UFC and WWE. Here’s what he had to say:
“I think people are drawn to that. Even though some mixed martial arts fans like to pretend, ‘we don’t like WWE, it isn’t real’. Hey, you are drawn to the fact to a tale as old as time…
“Vince McMahon or anybody else would’ve build a guy to the point that you like him. [For example], Conor McGregor. The UFC has built up Conor McGregor, built his backstory and I love him. It’s the same formula.”
