Dave LaGreca Blasts “Lazy” WWE Booking of Goldberg’s World Title Shot, Says Company “Should Be Ashamed”

“Busted Open Radio” host Dave LaGreca delivered a fiery and passionate critique of WWE’s decision to grant Goldberg an immediate World Heavyweight Championship match, calling the booking “incomprehensible” and “lazy.” His rant on today’s show began with an analogy from legendary Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry to make his point: “I don’t blame Goldberg. I blame the person who hired him.”

LaGreca laid out the perceived hypocrisy and lack of logic in the booking by comparing Goldberg’s opportunity to the difficult paths of other top WWE stars.

“John Cena, one of the biggest babyfaces in pro wrestling history… has to sell his soul to The Rock… in order to get a title shot,” LaGreca began. “R-Truth been with the company almost two decades. He wrestles John Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event. It’s a non-title match… he loses his job with the company… They bring him back. They give him a match with John Cena on Friday on SmackDown, non-title match.”

He then contrasted their situations with Goldberg’s, listing the Hall of Famer’s recent in-ring record as a key point of contention. “And I’m watching Raw last night. Goldberg, who’s had five matches since 2020, lost four of them… gets a title shot in July at Saturday Night’s Main Event against Gunther,” LaGreca said with disbelief. “Whoa, where is the logic here? Where’s the logic?”

The disparity in how different wrestlers must earn opportunities was at the heart of his frustration. “Jey Uso doesn’t even get a rematch. Jey Uso has got to enter himself into the King of the Ring tournament in hopes of getting another title shot at Gunther. But Goldberg just walks right in and gets a title shot… just because Gunther had bad blood over eight months ago,” he argued.

LaGreca concluded his impassioned critique by stating this was one of the most questionable booking decisions of the current creative era. “This is lazy. It’s, it’s lazy, Bully… The WWE should be ashamed of themselves this morning. I hope somebody on that creative team is listening to this show right now, red-faced because they’re embarrassed by what I saw on Monday Night Raw,” he said.
