Busted Open host Dave LaGreca had a visceral, angry reaction to Bill Goldberg’s recent interview with Ariel Helwani, stating that the WWE Hall of Famer’s comments “ruined my birthday.” On his SiriusXM show, LaGreca lambasted Goldberg for what he perceived as ungrateful complaints about his retirement sendoff at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
LaGreca said he was shocked by Goldberg’s demeanor just days after what was a widely praised final match. “He just had his retirement career match three days earlier where everybody’s praising it… and I’m expecting this Ariel Helwani sit down to be kind of like, just pats on the back,” LaGreca began. “It was exactly the opposite. And, I mean, Goldberg complained about everything, and then did the whole, ‘I don’t mean to complain’… You can’t complain, and then say, ‘Well, I’m not complaining.’ You just complained.”
“The Best They Possibly Could”
LaGreca staunchly defended WWE, arguing that the company gave Goldberg a perfect farewell. “I got to give credit to the WWE. I think they did the best they possibly could for Goldberg, and he’s unappreciative,” he stated. He pointed to Goldberg receiving a 14-minute World Championship main event match on network television in his hometown of Atlanta as the “best case scenario.”
The host became increasingly agitated as he discussed the interview. “I was getting so angry. I’m like, I can’t let this guy ruin my birthday,” LaGreca said. “He’s ruined so many things for me throughout the course of the last 25 years. He’s not ruining my birthday. So I turned it off… I was getting nauseous. The dinner I had, the ice cream I had celebrating my birthday, I was about to vomit all over the f—ing floor because of this asshole.”
Leaving The Door Open
LaGreca also took issue with Goldberg refusing to definitively close the door on his in-ring career. He referenced Goldberg saying, “in principle, it’s my last match, but you know, it’s wrestling.” LaGreca responded incredulously, “Really? You’re done. D, O, N, E, done. No more Goldberg. I don’t want to see him. I don’t want to hear from him.”
The interview in question took place just days after Goldberg was defeated by Gunther in the main event of Saturday Night’s Main Event. The match was billed as Goldberg’s retirement, and while the live broadcast on NBC cut away during his post-match speech, the full address was later posted on WWE’s social media channels.
