David Otunga is leaning into his legal background for his growing YouTube channel, and it is already leading to current wrestlers reaching out to him for advice.
Speaking on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Otunga detailed his new content strategy. “I’m taking this serious,” he said. “I’m taking people through my career… then I’m also releasing a legal video every week, which is usually tied into wrestling… we just talked about, will that? Will wrestlers ever form a union… I’m getting ready to record a video where I’m covering the Montreal screw job”.
Andrade Reached Out
He noted that his legal analysis can be “tricky” due to his “personal relationships in this business”. Otunga revealed that his legal video on WWE’s non-compete clause got the attention of WWE star Andrade for his own situation. Andrade is reportedly under a one-year WWE non-compete clause, which has impacted his ability to compete for AEW and other promotions
“I covered the non-compete and talked about Andrade’s situation… Everybody was telling me, Hey, you should reach out to Andrade… And so I said, Yeah, actually, Andrade probably should see my video. And then he did,” Otunga stated.
“And I’ll say this, [he] reached out and we spoke. Can’t really get into it more than that, but I’m just happy that, like, the videos I’m putting out are actually helping people. They’re actually helping wrestlers”.
When pressed for more details, Otunga had to maintain his legal confidentiality. “Yeah, yeah. And so, the reason I’m not saying more is that I am a licensed lawyer. I do not know where our relationship is going, for I don’t know if there’s a business relationship or representation-wise or not. So in order to preserve that, I can’t talk about anything that we see… but that’s why I’m just saying we spoke, and yeah, the presumption was that he was made aware of things from my video, and then wanted to speak to me further about that”.
