Demolition, Ax And Smash, Will Be Inducted Into The WWE Hall Of Fame

Demolition will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. The announcement was made directly to the team by WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker during a video call. The induction will formally recognize the careers of Bill “Ax” Eadie and Barry “Smash” Darsow.

Demolition debuted in the World Wrestling Federation (WWE) in 1987. The duo was characterized by their imposing physical presence, studded leather ring gear, and face paint. Demolition’s presentation was further enhanced by their association with their manager, Mr. Fuji, who accompanied them to the ring and frequently interfered in matches on their behalf. During their tenure with the company, Ax and Smash captured the WWF Tag Team Championship on three separate occasions.

The team’s first championship reign began at WrestleMania IV in 1988 when they defeated Strike Force. That title reign lasted for 478 days, establishing a company record for the longest tag team championship run. The record stood for more than two decades before eventually being surpassed by The New Day. During this record-setting reign, Demolition successfully defended the titles against teams such as The Rockers, The Twin Towers, and The Powers of Pain. At SummerSlam 1988, they retained their championships against The Hart Foundation with the assistance of Mr. Fuji and Jimmy Hart.

Throughout their time in the company, Demolition engaged in prominent rivalries with several notable teams, including The Brain Busters and The British Bulldogs. They secured their third and final tag team championship at WrestleMania VI, where they defeated The Colossal Connection, a team consisting of Haku and Andre the Giant. The team was known for concluding their matches using a tandem maneuver called the “Demolition Decapitation”.

The team later expanded to include a third member, Brian “Crush” Adams, following WrestleMania VI. Adams was introduced to assist the team in defending the championships after Eadie experienced health issues. The current Hall of Fame announcement specifically highlights the induction of the Ax and Smash iterations of the team.

The induction follows years of distance between Demolition and WWE. The team was previously involved in a class-action lawsuit against the company regarding traumatic brain injuries, which was ultimately dismissed. Eadie also engaged in a legal dispute with the promotion in the 1990s over the intellectual property rights to the Demolition name and characters. However, relations improved in recent years. In early 2025, it was reported that both Eadie and Darsow had officially signed WWE Legends contracts, allowing the company to produce licensed merchandise for the team. Additionally, Darsow noted in a 2024 interview that WWE had invited them to attend the Hall of Fame ceremony during WrestleMania XL weekend, but they were unable to attend due to prior scheduling commitments.

Prior to forming Demolition, both Eadie and Darsow had established singles careers in the professional wrestling industry. Eadie competed extensively under a mask as The Masked Superstar, facing prominent opponents such as Bob Backlund, Hulk Hogan, and Dusty Rhodes across various regional promotions. Darsow competed as Krusher Khruschev in Jim Crockett Promotions, where he held the NWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship. Darsow later portrayed the Repo Man character in the WWF following Demolition’s dissolution in 1991. Following their departure from WWE, Eadie and Darsow continued to make appearances as Demolition on the independent wrestling circuit and at fan conventions.

The 2026 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled to take place during WrestleMania 42 weekend.
