The deal for Ronda Rousey to appear at WrestleMania was made months ago and it was approved by Dana White. It was no secret that The Rock was likely for WrestleMania since he was hinting at making an appearance in an interview he did about a week before the show.
The Rock did Saturday Night Live and was with Ronda in New York that week. They both went out to eat after the show and then took a charter flight to San Jose during the middle of the night. They worked out their angle in the morning at Levi’s Stadium before most of the crew arrived.
Rousey and The Rock both have the same agent (Brad Salter of William Morris Endeavor) and the two are close friends. Ronda’s appearance helped WWE because it got them a lot of publicity and perhaps sets up a match for next year if they can sign a deal with Ronda and it helps UFC because it helps get more wrestling fans familiarized with her and it also helps with the buzz for “Furious 7.” Rousey and The Rock are both featured in the movie.
“Furious 7” did monster numbers on Friday with $67 or $68 million in ticket sales and it’s expected to bring in over $140 million this weekend in the United States.
