Diamond Dallas Page has revealed he recently suffered from atrial fibrillation (AFib) due to overtraining. Speaking on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer detailed a recent health scare that landed him in the hospital. Page, who is four months away from turning 70, explained that he was pushing his body too hard with a regimen involving cold plunges, hypoxia training, sprints, and yoga.
“I had afib, and I had it also three years ago,” Page said. “I got it again for the same reason, overtraining. I mean, pushing myself. I’m gonna be 70 in four more months… I just knew I was training too hard. I knew it.”
Page described the moment he realized something was wrong while using an inversion table. After feeling “weird” and perspiring heavily, his daughter, Paige, checked his heart rate.
“My heart rate is stuck at 140 to 150 and normally it goes down to 42 up to 180, it goes all through that,” Page said. “I call my doctor, Dr Asgar… He goes, ‘Go to the hospital right now, they’ll give you something to take you down.’ So it brought me down there for a couple hours… When you get afib, they hit you with the paddles, and they put you out to do that… Bottom line is, I went right on the first time.”
Page noted that his cardiologist suggested an ablation procedure, which involves burning small areas of the heart to correct rhythm problems. While he didn’t need it immediately, he decided to undergo the procedure three years ago. This recent incident served as a stark reminder for him to monitor his vitals.
“I want to make sure you guys, if you’re over 50, you’re wearing a heart monitor so you don’t end up like me here with afib,” Page warned.
