Dominik Mysterio says he never expected his sister to go into wrestling because she was the one in the family with sense.
Aalyah Mysterio has been training at the WWE Performance Center, and Dominik was asked about it by Fernando Ramirez of Compas On The Beat. His answer stayed inside the character he plays on television, which casts his father as an absentee and himself as the wronged party.
“Technically she is still my sister, but I don’t know, she’s going to have her opportunity,” Dominik said. “I never thought she would get in the business because she’s the smart one. She’s got her degree and everything. So she came in and she’s down at the PC doing her thing.”
The rest was a pitch.
“Only thing I can say is there’s two Mysterios out there, pick the right one,” he said. “You’ve seen how this goes. You’ve got two options to pick from.”
Aalyah, 24, graduated from the University of California San Diego in July 2025 with a degree in human biology, and her father has said she showed him the diploma and told him she was ready. Rey had made finishing her degree the condition.
The route since has been gradual. She trained at the Dungeon 2.0 in September 2025 alongside Natalya, TJ Wilson and Rey, in a session Rey described as her first time in a ring after a year and a half of asking him. He took her to the Performance Center that October for a single day, sent her back in February for a two-week full-time block, and said on The Undertaker’s Six Feet Under that she loved both and was preparing to establish herself there.
Rey also said he has told her there is no pressure to stay.
“She might be there for a year and she might say, dad, I thought this was for me and maybe it’s not,” he said. “Don’t feel pressured that you have to be here. It’s got to come from in here. You’ve got to feel it.”
He was clear he had not seen either of them coming.
“If you would have told me your kids are gonna grow up and become wrestlers, both of them, I think you’re wrong,” Rey said, before saying he would want to make something of it. He pointed at having been the first father and son WWE Tag Team Champions with Dominik and then feuding with him, and asked what he and Aalyah could do next.
WWE has not announced a signing. PWInsider reported in July that she was expected to begin at the Performance Center, around the time friends posted photographs of a cake reading “Florida’s about to get 619’d” with a caption telling WWE she is their problem now. PWInsider has since reported that she has started full-time training and is listed on WWE’s internal roster under her real name, Aalyah Gutierrez. She has been pictured at the facility alongside Marie Malenko and Lexis King, who are the daughter of Dean Malenko and the son of Bull Buchanan.
Dominik gave a similar answer on The Ariel Helwani Show in July, saying she has been a problem for his parents for 24 or 25 years and it is time for WWE to handle the problem, adding that he hopes she listens to him more than she listens to Rey. He was also a problem, he said.
Aalyah has appeared on WWE television without wrestling, most prominently in the 2020 angle where she was written into a romance with Buddy Murphy during the Mysterios’ feud with Seth Rollins, filmed through the ThunderDome period. She appeared again at WrestleMania 39 during Rey against Dominik.
There is already an idea on the table for the version Rey was talking about. The Undertaker, who is Head of Creative for AAA, floated Rey and Aalyah against Liv Morgan and Dominik on the same podcast where Rey gave the update.
Both her father and brother are on this weekend’s TripleMania 34 card. Rey meets Omos on night one in Nevada, with Omos reinstated in AAA if he wins and banned for life if he loses. Dominik defends the AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano on night two in Mexico City, with Rey’s second on night one, El Grande Americano, as his opponent.
