Dominik Mysterio Survives Omos, Dorian Roldan, And A Bloody Brawl To Retain AAA Mega Championship At Rey De Reyes

Dominik Mysterio retained the AAA Mega Championship over El Hijo del Vikingo in a No Disqualification match in the main event of AAA Rey de Reyes on Saturday night in Puebla, Mexico. Per the pre-match stipulations, Vikingo can never challenge for the AAA Mega Championship again as long as Mysterio is champion.

Had Mysterio lost, he would have been forced to leave AAA.

The match was a bloody, weapon-filled brawl that featured interference from Dorian Roldan, Omos, and a surprise appearance from Mini Vikingo, who ultimately cost Vikingo the match.

The Match

Both men grabbed Singapore canes at the opening bell and dueled before abandoning the weapons and brawling. Mysterio hit a dropkick but Vikingo responded with a series of armdrags, a spin kick, and a dropkick to the back of the head.

Vikingo grabbed a steel chair and flung it into Mysterio’s face, opening up a gash on his forehead. He dropkicked Mysterio off the apron to the floor and threw him into the ring steps. Vikingo set up a chair at ringside, sat the bloodied champion in it, and connected with a suicide dive that knocked him out of the chair.

Back in the ring, Vikingo put a garbage can over Mysterio’s head and hit it with a kendo stick before dropkicking the can for a near fall. Vikingo wiped Mysterio’s blood across his own mouth.

Mysterio mounted a comeback with a sunset flip over the ropes, kendo stick shots, and began the Three Amigos suplexes. Vikingo escaped before the third, but Mysterio countered with a Michinoku Driver for a near fall.

Interference From All Sides

Dorian Roldan threw himself into the ring to break up the pin. Omos then made his way down to ringside.

Vikingo rolled up Mysterio for a near fall, and Mysterio responded with a clothesline. Mysterio went for the 619, but Omos caught him mid-move and slammed him onto the ring apron. Omos chokeslammed Mysterio inside the ring and placed Vikingo on the top rope for what would have been the finishing blow.

As Vikingo stood on the top turnbuckle, Mini Vikingo appeared out of nowhere and pulled him off. Omos went after Mini Vikingo, but Mysterio hit Omos with a chair. Mini Vikingo grabbed a chair of his own and the two beat down the giant together.

With Omos neutralized, Mysterio hit Vikingo with a chair, set up the 619, connected, and followed with a frog splash for the pin.

What It Means

Mysterio’s victory means Vikingo is permanently locked out of the AAA Mega Championship picture for as long as Mysterio holds the belt. The feud between the two dates back to last summer and included Mysterio defeating Vikingo for the title at Worlds Collide in September. Vikingo earned the rematch by defeating El Grande Americano at the end of January.

With Vikingo out of the picture, the next challenger for Mysterio’s title is El Grande Americano, who won the Rey de Reyes tournament earlier in the night by defeating La Parka, “The Original” El Grande Americano, and Santos Escobar in a fatal four-way. Americano will receive the ceremonial sword and a future AAA Mega Championship match.
