Dominik Mysterio’s mom didn’t like the kendo stick shots, how Seth Rollins and Jamie Noble helped put together his SummerSlam match

WWE Superstar Dominik Mysterio was the guest today on The Gorilla Position podcast.

Dominik was on the show to talk about his in-ring debut at SummerSlam, the kendo stick initiation, the reactions backstage to his match and more.

Here are some transcribed highlights:

Dominik talked about Seth Rollins: “Seth has been nothing but so helpful and so kind.  He said it before.  He is a master at his craft.  I couldn’t think of anyone else to have a debut match, anyone better, than Seth Rollins.  I am very thankful for him and everything that he’s done for me.”

Who pieced this match together?:  “I think it had to do with a little bit of everybody, Seth, my dad, Jamie Noble, my mom.  My mom, she doesn’t mind watching me.  She didn’t enjoy watching me getting beat with the kendo stick.  She didn’t watch it.  She watched the first two hits and then she was done.  The fact she was able to sit there and watch the match is pretty cool.”

Dominik was asked if he was pleased with himself and the match or if he was disappointed:  “No, mainly because everyone was telling me I should be very proud of myself.  I’m very nit picky.  I probably always will be just because I will always try to give my 1000% out there.  Of course, there are little things here and there I wished I could have done better.  But, everyone told me I should be proud of myself.  I try not to look at the bad things and the bad comments but try to realize what I did was something crazy.  I debuted at SummerSlam at the Thunderdome during a pandemic with Seth Rollins.  I’m very blessed and very thankful.”

Dominick was asked if his mom or dad was nervous about him becoming a wrestler:  “I think my mom was more nervous than my dad.  I think my dad was excited about it because he never pushed me to go into it.  It was more on my own.  I approached him about wanting to join the business.  He’s been excited ever since.  Especially now.  I’ve seen my dad cry maybe three or four times in my lifetime.  The fourth time was after my match at SummerSlam when we were all upstairs together.  I think it’s very special for him that I’m following in his footsteps.  I think he’s very happy and I hoped I made him proud.”
