According to McIntyre, Cena was the performer who not only accepted that position but held it for multiple generations of fans.

McIntyre’s career initially began during the height of Cena’s popularity, a period where the company relied heavily on Cena’s consistency and ability to main event shows globally. The Scottish performer continued to praise Cena, noting the performer’s impending retirement is difficult to acknowledge given his long tenure in the spotlight. McIntyre noted that simply being a part of the roster during Cena’s time provided invaluable learning opportunities for younger stars.
“It’s notable to say that he’s about to have his last couple of matches. I’m sad I didn’t get one of them, but I’m glad I’m part of the roster. I’m glad I got to travel the world. I’m glad I got to learn from John Cena because he is a performer, and he may just be the best of all time.”
He noted that Cena’s consistency as a babyface carried the company through a challenging era and helped launch the modern, global WWE brand. While McIntyre acknowledged that his wish for a match with Cena will not be fulfilled, he expressed satisfaction at having traveled the world and learned from the celebrated performer.
WarGames Match at Survivor Series
Drew McIntyre is set to compete in the Men’s WarGames match this Saturday, November 29, at the Survivor Series WarGames Premium Live Event in San Diego, California. McIntyre will team with Logan Paul, Brock Lesnar, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed, facing off against CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, and Jimmy Uso. Meanwhile, John Cena will be in action on the same night, defending his Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio in what is advertised as Cena’s second-to-last active match before his retirement.
