Drew McIntyre On Nick Aldis: ‘When The Time Was Right, Be It Mania Or After Mania, I Think We Should Have A Match’

Drew McIntyre has made clear he wants to eventually get his hands on SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis in an unsanctioned match with no interference allowed, saying the tension between the two is palpable every time they interact and it would be a shame if it did not lead somewhere.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, McIntyre discussed the simmering dynamic between himself and Aldis, a man he has known since their teenage years in the UK wrestling scene and who he feels has repeatedly backed the wrong side in recent storylines.

“Every time we go back and forth on the microphone, I can feel the people starting to get into it,” McIntyre said. “He took away the biggest moment for me, being champion at WrestleMania. We have this story built in, and then we have the physicality and how good the match is going to be. There’s this oldest thing simmering at the side, and every time we go back and forth, you can feel the tension. You can cut it with a knife.”

McIntyre also took a pointed shot at Aldis over his perceived allegiance to Cody Rhodes. “What a corporate stooge,” McIntyre said. “His kid must be Donovan. Must be ashamed of him having such a corporate stooge for a father instead of backing me, the one who’s in the right and the one that he’s known for years and is his actual friend.”

When it comes to how such a match should be structured, McIntyre was unambiguous. “When the time was right, be it Mania or after Mania, I think we should have a match, and I don’t think there should be any sanctioning around it,” McIntyre said.

“I don’t think anyone should be allowed to interfere. He tapes up the fist. He’s been up in the ring a long time. He thinks he can go with a four-time former world champion in WWE. I would love to get in there with him and I’d love to see what damage I could do.”

McIntyre is currently heading into WrestleMania 42 with an Unsanctioned Match against Jacob Fatu. WrestleMania 42 takes place April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
