WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre recently appeared on the “Wafflin” podcast and, when asked to name his favorite wrestler, unequivocally chose WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart. McIntyre elaborated on why Hart resonated with him so deeply, both as a young fan and later as a professional wrestler himself.
McIntyre first highlighted Hart’s immense global appeal, particularly in Europe. “He’s huge in Europe,” McIntyre stated. “Like crazy huge in Europe.” He recalled being captivated by Hart from a very young age, even before he could fully understand the nuances of wrestling. “He was so captivating even as a 5, 6, 7 year old,” McIntyre shared. “I couldn’t articulate why I was so drawn to him as opposed to the larger than life character like Ultimate Warrior, etc.”
As McIntyre grew older and entered the wrestling business, his admiration for Hart only deepened, shifting towards an appreciation for his technical prowess and narrative skill. “As I got older and started wrestling and I understood the business more, I got a higher appreciation for him,” he explained. “I was like wow, he’s such a compelling storyteller with his matches.”
McIntyre emphasized Hart’s unique ability to draw viewers into his matches, comparing the experience to watching engaging television shows. “I would sit down and watch my Disney and TV shows in the same way I would sit there for his matches,” McIntyre recalled. “When he was on, I was so drawn in. He was such a good storyteller. It was like watching every other show I was watching but his performance was his wrestling.” For Drew McIntyre, Bret Hart stands out due to this masterful blend of captivating presence and unparalleled in-ring storytelling.
