Drew McIntyre reflects on Triple H convincing him to make WWE return

Drew McIntyre took his departure from the WWE in 2014 after being put with the 3MB gimmick with Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater as an opportunity in order to reinvent himself on the independent scene to the point where WWE had to bring him back. He did just that and had a successful run in NXT and now on the main roster.

McIntyre recently spoke with The Orlando Sentinel to talk about various topics including his discovery of motivation when he returned to the indies as well as who convinced him to come back to WWE. This is when he named Triple H.

“When I first went back, I guess in the back of my mind I had a chip on my shoulder, but I don’t think that way anymore. Now I just work harder than those around me and hope that everyone else starts doing the same.”

“Triple H convinced me it was time to come home. I’m proud of the different man I became during my time away. I came back as the grown-up version of myself.”

Now, being booked in an important role on WWE television, he’s eager to win a WWE singles title.

“Now all I need to do is become the first British heavyweight champion. I’m not shy to say that’s the goal. If it isn’t, why are you even here?”
