Drew McIntyre Reveals The Story Behind His Viral “Still Bored At Work” WrestleMania Selfie

Drew McIntyre recently shared the full behind-the-scenes story of his now-famous “Still Bored at Work” selfie, which he took and posted in the middle of his World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania 40. Appearing on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, McIntyre revealed that the viral moment was a last-minute idea that came together just hours before the show.

“Nobody knew I was going to do it… it came about that day,” McIntyre said. “My buddy and I were in the gym… and I was just like, ‘Man, like a match… Tweeted, like, during a match, they filmed yourself and then posted it… that was cool.’ And I was like, ‘Someone did it in the match? Imagine, was it Mania?'”

A Last-Minute Plan

Despite the spontaneity of the idea, McIntyre was insistent that he would only do it if the moment was right and it didn’t compromise the integrity of the match. “I’ll never sacrifice the match, the integrity of the match, or my opponent, make them look silly if it doesn’t work. But we’ll have a plan,” he told his friend.

The opportunity presented itself during the match, after McIntyre hit Seth Rollins with an overhead suplex on the floor. “He’s got the bad knees going into that match, the bad back, and he’s selling on the floor. And that’s when it’s time,” McIntyre recalled. “My brother was right there. ‘Give me the phone.’ We did it right there on the fly. They exploded.”

Going Viral

McIntyre revealed that he had the tweet saved as a draft and handed the phone off to his friend to post it immediately. The tweet, which showed him taking a selfie with a downed Rollins in the background, went instantly viral. “The numbers were just unbelievable,” he said. “I was getting directly from X, I guess… of the past 60 days when it was posted, in the first hour, it was the most liked… second most liked post in 60 days on X. Of everything.”

He repeated the spot at this year’s WrestleMania 41, taking another selfie with Damian Priest in the background. The “Still Bored at Work” catchphrase has since become one of his signature taunts and is now featured on a best-selling t-shirt. “It took a while to get it,” he said of the merchandise. “I had to do it two years in a row at WrestleMania… Can I get the t-shirt now? Take a few more months. We finally got it.”
