Drew McIntyre is set to make a move to the big screen, as he has officially joined the cast of the upcoming “Highlander” reboot from Amazon MGM Studios. The two-time former WWE Champion will star opposite Henry Cavill, playing the role of Angus MacLeod, the brother of Cavill’s character. The casting places McIntyre in a high-profile project alongside a star-studded cast that also includes Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, and fellow WWE alumnus Dave Bautista.
The film, which is a reboot of the 1986 fantasy action classic, is being directed by Chad Stahelski, known for his work on the “John Wick” franchise. The original “Highlander” film starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish warrior who must battle other immortals through history to claim “The Prize.”
The franchise has since expanded to include multiple sequels and a popular television series. The new reboot, which is being produced by a team that includes Stahelski and Neal H. Moritz, has been in development for some time and is now poised to begin production in early 2026. Production was set to begin earlier but was recently halted when star Henry Cavill was injured during a training session.
This role in “Highlander” marks another significant step in Drew McIntyre’s burgeoning acting career. He previously worked with director Chad Stahelski’s 87Eleven stunt and action team, as well as his “Highlander” co-star Dave Bautista, on the Lionsgate film “The Killer’s Game,” marking his feature film debut.
On WWE television, Drew McIntyre is coming off a hard-fought but unsuccessful challenge for the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes at the recent Wrestlepalooza premium live event. In a recent interview, McIntyre revealed that his motivation for wanting to win the title was to use it to “dangle a carrot” in front of John Cena and lure him into a match on his retirement tour.
