Drew McIntyre responds to Colby Covington: “when I knock him out it’ll get some buzz for WWE”

WWE Champion Drew McIntyre recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio. The Scottish Superstar would discuss a number of topics from his recent career during his time on-air. One of the points raised was UFC star Colby Covington recently challenging McIntyre to a match in WWE.

Covington recently said: “I’m not looking to pick on someone smaller than me, and guys? Let’s be honest. WWE may not want this because of the violence and it being too dangerous. The last time I checked? People love danger and violence so let’s give it to them. Because I expressed myself by saying that I want to go to WWE to wrestle. BUT, it sounds like Drew McIntyre expressed himself like he wants to FIGHT. If WWE does not want to sanction this? [Then] I recommend, we can do it in a ‘no sanctioned’ country. Maybe we do it in the UK? Maybe we do it in Saudi Arabia? But I think there needs to be a fight between me and Drew McIntyre, you know? David versus Goliath.”

McIntyre responded to this, saying “I get it you know? Tyson fury has done the same thing. Since I won the WWE Title? We have back and forth banter. People recognise the global reach of WWE, we’re in 100 million homes across the world, 180 countries, eight different languages and have over a billion social media followers.”

The WWE Champion elaborated further, saying “that’s a huge platform, a huge opportunity. Now obviously, if you’ve got any sense? You’re gonna go for the top dog. But, I beat Brock Lesnar in five minutes. I don’t know how Colby would do in an MMA fight with Brock Lesnar? But I beat him in five minutes.”

McIntyre would finish by saying that he would face Covington in a ‘bar fight,’ because only WWE Superstars deserve a shot at his title. “Do you want an unsanctioned match in a bar fight? Not for the title, only our superstars get title shots. Anytime, anywhere that’s going to get more eyes on WWE [I’m up for]. But here’s the thing, there’s a reason there’s strict weight classes in UFC. I’m six foot five, 270 pounds legit, so if I am in a bar fight? That’s fine, I’ve got 100 pounds on the guy and when I knock him out it’ll get some buzz for WWE.”

With Covington recently saying that he wants to move into pro wrestling there’s a chance that he could be in WWE sooner rather than later.
