The upcoming WWE Super Show-Down in Australia will get a lot of hype on WWE TV during the final weeks leading up to the show, especially because it’s another “all hands on deck” show with every active member of the roster and a few legends expected to be there.
Shawn Michaels’ name being included in the advertising raised some eyebrows because he has hinted (he later went back on his statement) that he would be open to another match but it would have to be a tag team scenario. This week, he said that if he wrestled again then it would have to be against someone near his age range because he doesn’t feel like he could keep up with some of the top talent in their prime.
Officials in Melbourne, Australia will be setting up the Melbourne Cricket Grounds Stadium for 70,000 fans. If WWE plans on filling the stadium to capacity, a returning legend like Shawn Michaels would help them sell a ton of tickets. However, there is nothing indicating that another match is in the plans.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there has been talk of Michaels playing the special referee role on the show, similar to when he was the special ref for an NXT live event in San Antonio last year when they went up against a ROH show.
If that is the plan then the most logical place to put him would be as the ref for the final Triple H vs. The Undertaker match that is scheduled for that show.
On a somewhat related note, Daniel Bryan is also advertised but that doesn’t mean that he will sign a new deal. As of this writing, he has not signed a new deal and his contract is set to expire on September 1st.
