ECW star “New Jack” Jerome Young has passed away at 58 years old.
PWInsider reports that he passed away earlier today in North Carolina. The news broke via Young’s wife Jennifer.
New Jack was one of the most controversial wrestlers in the 90s as part of ECW because of his intensity in his matches and because of his unpredictable style where he would oftentimes introduce weapons to use on his opponents.
Jack got his big break in the wrestling business in Jim Cornette’s Smoky Mountain Wrestling as part of The Gangstas tag team with Mustafa Saed.
When the team made the jump to ECW, they became one of the hottest acts in the company and they were the first to wrestle matches while their theme song, Dr. Dre’s “Natural Born Killaz,” was playing over the loudspeakers.
Jack may be best remembered by fans for his promo skills or for diving off balconies or for stabbing his opponents with sharp objects. His style eventually took a toll on his body but he continued to wrestle on independent shows up until his death.
Jack’s life story in and out of the wrestling business was chronicled on the second season of Vice’s “Dark Side of the Ring.”
We send deepest condolences to New Jack’s friends and family.
