WWE Hall Of Famer Edge made his return to WWE TV at the SmackDown 1000 special episode in October. He hosted a “Cutting Edge” segment with SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. First, Edge talked to Lynch one-on-one and tried to appeal to her to stop acting the way she was acting as of late, following her attack on Charlotte.
However, Lynch instead decided to insult Edge by telling him to get out of her ring, and not to hurt his neck on the way out, taking a jab at the injury that ended “The Rated-R Superstar’s” career. Recently, Edge spoke to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated and discussed the segment with Lynch.
Edge said that when he returns to WWE programming, he doesn’t wan’t it to be just for the sake of doing a comedy skit. He wants to help further a storyline. That’s exactly what he did with his angle alongside Lynch and Flair at SmackDown 1000:
“It’s always great to pop back, but I want to further a storyline. I don’t want to just come back and do a comedy backstage skit. I can’t physically put someone over, but I can feel very confident in my ability to tell a story through a promo. That’s what Mick Foley does when he comes back, and that’s what I want to do.
“So when I heard I was with Becky and Charlotte, they have one of the best stories in wrestling, and I knew I could help further their story along.”
