WWE Hall of Famer Edge took part in a telephone conference call in order to promote WrestleMania 36. This is where he’ll take on Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing Match.
During the interview, Edge talked about the new crop of talent since he was a full-time star. Now, that he’s back as a part-time star, the possible matches with various new stars is exciting to him.
It appears that he’s a big fan of WWE NXT which is where his wife Beth Phoenix has a commentary role. He was asked about the stars in NXT that he has his eyes on. Edge thinks Finn Balor is “the guy” in NXT right now.
“Obviously (Tomasso) Ciampa and I have a very close relationship, we’re both ‘neck’ guys for a lack of a better term. So he’s picking his brain a lot and I love it because he cares a lot and he’ll try the ideas too. I love [Johnny] Gargano. To me, ‘the guy’ who is dialed in and completely found what it is that he’s supposed to do is Finn Balor. It’s exciting to watch him right now. To me, he and Gargano set the template for what an NXT match should be going forward.”
Edge also praised workhorses’ like NXT Champion Adam Cole and the Velveteen Dream. He’s also been impressed by NXT North American Champion Keith Lee. He would love to get into the ring with Lee in order to show him exactly what he is and how he can be a bigger star.
He sees Dream as this raw, completely natural character. Edge stated that Dream has just found his character and that’s so exciting to watch because it’s not all about the moves and Dream understands that. He added that he thinks the future is good of the company is good.
Edge also talked on this conference call about how he was hidden before the Royal Rumble, how he felt about his in-ring return, making history, and more.
