If the promo from Elias on Monday Night Raw sounded familiar to you, then you probably heard about it on Chris Jericho’s podcast when Jon Moxley was on as the guest a couple of weeks ago.
Moxley said that when WWE Raw was in Los Angeles last November, he was asked to recite a promo about the fans being smelly and disgusting. Moxley noted that he tried to make changes because he thought that was he was told to say was silly and would not fit his character. Moxley was told by McMahon that he would have to say the promo exactly as scripted for him.
On this week’s episode, Elias did an in-ring segment where he ripped on the fans and the verbiage was very similar to the promo that was scripted by Moxley last November. Many fans picked up on this on Twitter and Dave Meltzer discussed this on Wrestling Observer Radio.
There were some differences with the promo, including a reference to Anthony Davis being traded to the Lakers, but much of what was said mirrored the promo that was written for Moxley in November. Meltzer speculated that someone (probably Vince McMahon) liked what was written for Moxley and decided to write a similar promo for Elias.
I was told that the Lebron James references (there were several of them on the show) came from McMahon.
