There some big news coming out of WWE Today.
The company has announced that Paul Heyman has been named the Executive Director of Monday Night Raw and Eric Bischoff will be the Executive Director of SmackDown Live in newly created positions that will report directly to Vince McMahon.
Heyman and Bischoff will oversee the creative development of their respective shows.
Sports Illustrated is reporting that these are executive roles and there are no plans at this time for them to be introduced as part of a TV storyline.
Heyman was the creative force behind ECW in the 1990s while Bischoff was the man who had WWE on the ropes at the helm of WCW for 83 weeks during the ratings war in the late 1990s.
The story also notes that Bischoff will be working directly with the executives at FOX when SmackDown Live moves to their network in October.
WWE’s intent is to further establish Raw and SmackDown Live as two distinct brands. No word yet on what this means for Vince McMahon’s Wild Card rule that was introduced a few weeks ago.
This comes across as McMahon’s strategy to improve declining ratings and attendance.
