Eric Bischoff says as a fan he would prefer not to see Rey Mysterio wrestle again

Rey Mysterio was the Biggest Little Man in WWE and it looked like he might be flirting with a return to McMahon’s Museum Of Musclemen. There are also reports he’s talking to GFW about coming in to their company. He would be joining his old buddy Konnan there along with a whole bounty of talented performers in Jeff Jarrett’s Playground Of Pain if he went there.

A lot of people have an opinion of what Rey should do next in his career and Eric Bischoff is certainly one of them. Bischoff On Wrestling recently had a Live Anniversary Special where he went into his opinion of Mysterio at this current stage in his career and what might be best for The Master Of The 619.

“I don’t know. I love Rey, he’s such a good guy” Eric said. “Great performer, he’s accomplished so much in the business. I want Rey to achieve and to do whatever Rey wants to do. As someone who has a lot of affection for Rey. He’s a good guy, and I respect the hell out of him. So whatever he wants to do is what I want to see him do.”

Bischoff went into a little bit more explanation on what he thinks might be best for Rey Mysterio’s career. It turns out, Eric thinks Rey might do himself justice to just hang it up at this stage. Bischoff meant no disrespect and went on to explain his point well.

“Now as a fan of Rey Mysterio I would prefer not to see him wrestle again. Rey’s at that point in his career now, I think where he’s never going to be able to live up to the Rey Mysterio that was at the peak of his career that we all want to remember and hold onto.”

Eric said sometimes a performer has to be willing to let go and let their legacy live on. Rey was a tremendous character and changed the business in the United States. But at 42-years old and after racking up so many awful injuries in his career, maybe Rey should consider what’s best for his career.

But in the end Bischoff said it’s not about him, and it’s not even about the fans. Eric said it’s up to Rey satisfying himself with the level of competition he can give at this stage in his career. But in the end Bischoff said, “nothing against GFW, but that’s just not the way that I would like to see a guy like Rey Mysterio end his career.”

Eric said if GFW can turn a corner, “then great. They have a lighter schedule that’s appealing to him. The fact that Konnan is at GFW and I know that [Konnan] and Rey are very, very tight — have been for many, many, many years. Maybe that’s something that’s really important to Rey. If that’s the case — great. You know? I full support him and hope that’s what makes him happy. But I think that the opportunities that lie within WWE are probably much longer term and maybe a better way to end your career than what we currently see at least in GFW.”

Who knows what decision Rey Mysterio will make. But he’s certainly in the position to make the best decision for himself at this point in his career.
