Eric Bischoff: TKO Is Drawing A ‘Line That Distinguishes Between Then And Now’

During the latest 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff analyzed the specific wording used by TKO President Mark Shapiro, who stated that many of WWE’s current PLEs were “created by Vince McMahon” and that the company needs to “move past that”. While Bischoff defended the business strategy of creating new events, he agreed with co-host Conrad Thompson that the specific mention of McMahon’s name served a different purpose.

Drawing A Line

“I agree with you, what I think you were saying there. There was no real business purpose for that comment,” Bischoff said. “I mean, it wasn’t a transactionally based kind of thing to say didn’t have, didn’t have a real purpose, right? It was other than to draw a line that distinguishes between then and now”.

Bischoff stated that the comment was a clear, public signal of a new era, likely related to the ongoing legal issues surrounding the former WWE Chairman.

“And I think they do want based on that comment, because I can’t think of another reason why you would say it unless Mark Shapiro’s got a personal thing with Vince and just wanted to ding them… I doubt it,” Bischoff said. “But to me, it seems more like we just want to make sure everybody knows kind of thing”.
