Eric Bischoff On R-Truth/WWE Contract Dispute: ‘Ron Jumped The Gun’

On the latest episode of 83 Weeks, Eric Bischoff discussed the backstage realities of WWE, specifically touching on the recent controversy surrounding R-Truth’s contract negotiations depicted in WWE Unreal. Bischoff sided with Triple H’s version of events, suggesting that R-Truth’s tweet about being “fired” was a result of miscommunication involving agents.

“They were negotiating. Ron jumped the gun. Was an amateur move,” Bischoff stated. “I believe Paul [Triple H] in this case… When you’re dealing with agents, you’re in a negotiation. It sounds to me like they had to make a point… I’m sure, because there’s an agent involved, we’re going to play hardball. They played hardball… that was stupid as an agent for overshooting, and they probably called their bluff, and that’s where things fell apart.”

Bischoff also commented on the WWE Unreal series itself, noting that the presence of cameras inevitably changes behavior in creative meetings.

“You don’t forget those cameras are on. You’re second guessing everything that you’re saying,” Bischoff observed. “It’s really, really difficult as a producer to get people to be honest about something like the creative process.”

Regarding Michael Hayes’ comments on the show about Chelsea Green not being on the level of Rhea Ripley or Charlotte Flair, Bischoff viewed it as a positive.

“If I’m Chelsea, and I heard those comments, I’d be excited,” Bischoff argued. “If my job is to get people ready, I’m going to get really good at that job. Because guess what? Eventually that somebody is going to be doing that for me.”
