ESPN President Burke Magnus Discusses “Great” Relationship With WWE
ESPN President Burke Magnus recently offered high praise for WWE and its leadership team, reflecting on the early stages of the network’s broadcasting partnership with the sports entertainment giant. With major events like Wrestlepalooza already in the books and WrestleMania on the horizon, Magnus expressed satisfaction with how the collaboration has unfolded.
Speaking on the SI Media with Jimmy Traina podcast, Magnus highlighted the professionalism of WWE President Nick Khan and his staff. He noted that while the two sides have worked together in smaller capacities for years, the current level of engagement has been impressive.
“It’s gone great so far,” Magnus said. “We’re very familiar with Nick Khan and the team over there. We’ve had engagement with them for years in much smaller ways. They are fantastic to work with. They really hustle on behalf of their property. Those appearances don’t just happen unless you have a league to make those people available. The superstars are highly engaged in promoting themselves, the broader WWE, and their stories. It’s been really good so far.”
“Wrestlepalooza Was New”
Magnus also touched on the Premium Live Events (PLEs) that have already aired on ESPN, specifically mentioning a recent event in the Middle East and the Wrestlepalooza special. He indicated that the upcoming Survivor Series in San Diego would serve as a key indicator of the partnership’s success as they prepare for their first WrestleMania broadcast.
“We’re looking forward to WrestleMania this year, which would be our first,” Magnus said. “We’ve had two PLEs to date, one was in the Middle East, so it was on an off-hour. Wrestlepalooza was new. Survivor Series this weekend is going to be a really good measuring stick for how it’s going. In terms of the interaction between the team at WWE and us, it’s been great.”
