“Euphoria” Director Augustine Frizzell To Direct Ronda Rousey’s Netflix Biopic

The biopic based on the life of former UFC and WWE champion Ronda Rousey has found its director. According to a report from Deadline, Augustine Frizzell is set to direct the film adaptation of Rousey’s bestselling memoirs for Netflix.

The project, produced by Chernin Entertainment, is notable for Rousey’s deep personal involvement. After studying screenwriting and technique within WME’s story group, Rousey wrote the script for the film herself. The report states that after going through several scripts, she penned her own version in just seven days, which was then taken to market.

Frizzell was chosen to direct after an extensive search for a female director to helm the project. Sources told Deadline that Frizzell, a fan of Rousey who also trains in Muay Thai, impressed producers with her vision for the film. Frizzell has previously directed the A24 film Never Goin’ Back, the pilot for the hit HBO series Euphoria, and the Netflix film The Last Letter From Your Lover.

The biopic will be based on both of Rousey’s memoirs, My Fight/Your Fight and the more recent Our Fight. This means the film is expected to cover not only her rise in UFC but also the more challenging aspects of her life detailed in the second book, including her first professional loss, her history with concussions, and her struggles.
