At last Sunday’s NXT TakeOver 31 event, Balor successfully retained the title over Kyle O’Reilly in the main event of the show from Orlando, Florida at the Capitol Wrestling Center.
WWE did air a video package during this week’s NXT to recap the match and showed photos of Balor in the hospital. However, they did not announce a timeline for his return but also didn’t strip him of the title.
This was talked about during today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. Dave Meltzer noted he was told by somebody in WWE that while Balor suffering a jaw injury is true, WWE made it seem to be worse than it actually is.
“I was told…it’s not inaccurate, but I was told that it was made out to be worse than it is, whatever that means from somebody there. I mean he’s got a broken jaw, but that’s what I was told.”
Bryan Alvarez brought up how WWE mentioned that they’re waiting on the swelling to go down to see the severity of the broken jaw, but speculated that WWE may already know the severity. Thus, that’s possibly why WWE didn’t strip him of the title because he won’t be out of action for that long such as three or four months.
