he tag team of Vinny and Dutch, known collectively as The Righteous, may be on their way to WWE, according to a new report from Fightful Select. Sources familiar with the situation have indicated that the team is informing some independent promoters that they are finishing up their dates in the coming months. The report adds that there is interest from within WWE, and that many in the company believe they are likely to be signed.
This is not the first time WWE has shown interest in the duo. In December 2022, The Righteous participated in an indie wrestler-only tryout for the company. However, any potential hires were put on hold around that time due to a company-wide hiring freeze that occurred when Vince McMahon returned to WWE, a move that ultimately led to the company’s acquisition by Endeavor. The hiring freeze affected WWE’s interest in talent across the board, and no new wrestlers were brought in for several months.
Following that period, The Righteous would go on to sign with AEW and were featured on its sister promotion, Ring of Honor, before they procured their release from the company earlier this year. During their time in ROH, both before and during its acquisition by AEW’s Tony Khan, The Righteous were multiple-time ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions.
Other talent have also advocated for the team. Another supporter mentioned was Elijah (formerly Elias), who reportedly filmed vignettes with The Righteous for a pitch that never made it to WWE television.
Killer Kross (Karrion Kross) has also been a vocal supporter of the team. In a social media post from late 2023, Kross praised The Righteous, calling their act “demented and brilliant” and stating that they were already a “main roster act.”
The recent report notes that the team has had significant support from talent within WWE. Among those pushing for the duo was the late Bray Wyatt. Karrion Kross said recently that Wyatt was a huge proponent of The Righteous, wanted to work with them, and pitched a storyline for them and The Wyatt Sicks before Bray passed away.
With their independent schedule reportedly winding down and a history of interest from WWE, including strong endorsements from influential figures like the late Bray Wyatt and current stars, all signs now point toward The Righteous potentially joining the WWE roster in the near future.
