Former champions expected to return to WWE

Fans could be in store for a surprise from WWE at the start of 2024 as the company looks to continue the momentum that they’ve had throughout 2023. WWE is looking to inject some new blood into its main roster talent pool.

First run

After a strong run in NXT and constant stop-and-start pushes on the main roster, AOP (Akam and Rezar)was released in 2020. Throughout their NXT run and at the beginning of their main roster stint, they were managed by Paul Ellering, who also represents them outside of the ring.

As previously reported, AOP has been believed to be under contract with WWE since 2022, as there had been a lot of talk over mid-August about AOP and Ellering returning to make some appearances, mostly for the NXT brand. That has yet to happen.

The future

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that the Authors of Pain are planned for a return to WWE TV soon. They were told the working plan is for them to be part of the SmackDown brand.

Ellering is still expected to be their manager when they return.
