Former NXT Champion Returns This Week

NXT Superstar Tony D’Angelo is set to make his return to in-ring competition this week after an absence of over two months. The former champion is being advertised for a series of NXT live events in the Midwest, marking his first scheduled matches since late July. His return follows an on-screen angle that left his character’s status ambiguous.

According to promotional materials released on social media, D’Angelo is scheduled to appear at three consecutive NXT live events. The tour begins on Thursday, October 9, in Columbus, Ohio, followed by a show on Friday, October 10, in Detroit, Michigan. The final advertised appearance is for Saturday, October 11, in Cleveland, Ohio. Other talent advertised for these events include NXT Champion Trick Williams, Jaida Parker, Sol Ruca, and Oba Femi.

The 30-year-old performer has not wrestled since participating in an NXT live event on July 25. Shortly after that match, his character was written off of television through a specific vignette that aired on NXT’s weekly program. The pre-taped segment showed D’Angelo eating alone at a restaurant table when he was approached by an unidentified individual.

The vignette concluded abruptly as the screen cut to black, leaving D’Angelo’s fate uncertain within the storyline. The scene was structured as an homage to the widely discussed final scene from the television series, The Sopranos, which featured a similar ambiguous ending for its main character, a mob boss.

Prior to his hiatus, D’Angelo was a prominent figure on the NXT brand, having held multiple championships. His accomplishments include reigns as the NXT North American Champion and, more recently, the NXT Heritage Cup Champion. His return to the live event circuit signals his re-entry into active competition for the brand.
