Eric Bischoff shared his read on Road Dogg’s run in WWE creative on 83 Weeks, suggesting the veteran simply wasn’t a fit for the current version of the company.
Bischoff prefaced his take by noting he has no firsthand experience working alongside Brian James. “I’ve never worked with him, so I absolutely have no idea,” he said. “Certainly know of him, so my opinion doesn’t really mean much.”
Still, from the outside, Bischoff felt Road Dogg was miscast in the TKO-era WWE. “I think clearly out of place in the TKO version of WWE. Clearly out of place, square peg, round hole,” Bischoff said. “It’s never going to work culturally from a business perspective, at least as it relates to in-ring storytelling and talent.”
Bischoff was careful to frame it as a matter of fit rather than competence.
“It’s not who’s right and who’s wrong. It’s just the chemistry just doesn’t work sometimes,” he said, noting that even two highly talented parties can fail to mesh. “You could take two highly talented people, or an organization and a talented person, and it just doesn’t come together.”
The discussion came as Road Dogg continues to be a talking point in wrestling circles. He drew online criticism following his portrayal on WWE’s Unreal docuseries, though those who have worked with him have pushed back on that perception. His name has also surfaced in speculation about TNA’s creative team amid the company’s recent changes.
