Former WWE Star Preparing For A Return To The Ring?

Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Dakota Kai has been fueling speculation about her in-ring return, and a new report suggests she is actively preparing for it. According to a Q&A session from Fightful Select, Kai has recently had new ring gear made.

This news, combined with her own recent comments on her Twitch stream, indicates that the former NXT star is getting ready to step back into the squared circle. The report from Sean Ross Sapp also noted that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Kai had a stint in Japan, a country where she has previously competed. That is a personal opinion and should not be taken as a factual report.

Kai, who was released from her WWE contract in May of this year, has been relatively quiet on the wrestling front, focusing instead on her Twitch stream. During her streams, she has often spoken with fans about her career and her desire to eventually return to the ring. “I miss wrestling, you guys! I got to get back into it. It’s just one of those things where it has been nice to have a little bit of a break. I have been doing it for a long time. Longer than the last seven years that I was in WWE. You know what I mean? It is nice to take a step back for a while, but I really do miss it,” she said on a recent stream.

A return to Japan would not be new territory for Dakota Kai. She had a successful, albeit short, run in the acclaimed all-women’s promotion, World Wonder Ring Stardom, in late 2015 and early 2016. During that time, she captured the Artist of Stardom Championship, the promotion’s trios title. She also had a brief stint with Pro Wrestling Zero1, giving her valuable experience in the Japanese style of wrestling. While a return to Japan is a strong possibility, many fans are also hoping to see her appear in AEW, where she would have a host of dream matches against stars like Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale.

Dakota Kai was part of a large group of talent released by WWE on May 2, a group that also included Braun Strowman, Cora Jade, and Gigi Dolin. While some of her fellow released stars, like Cora Jade and Shotzi Blackheart, have already returned to the independent scene, Kai has taken a more deliberate approach to her comeback.
