WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi has announced that he is canceling his scheduled appearance at the WrestleCon fan convention in New Jersey, which is taking place during WWE SummerSlam weekend. The last-minute cancellation, citing “unforeseen circumstances,” has immediately fueled speculation among fans that he may be involved in this weekend’s premium live event.
The convention appearance was scheduled for August 1 and 2, the same two days as WWE SummerSlam at the nearby MetLife Stadium. The timing of the cancellation has led many to believe it could be related to WWE, though it is important to note that this is purely speculation and has not been confirmed.
Rikishi’s Official Statement
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Rikishi announced the news to his fans and expressed his regret for being unable to attend the popular convention.
“I regret to announce that I will be unable to attend Wrestlecon New Jersey on August 1-2,” Rikishi wrote. “I wish I could be there, but due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I will be unable to attend. I look forward to seeing you next time, and I am sure you will all have a great time.”
Fueling SummerSlam Speculation
Rikishi, as the father of The Usos and Solo Sikoa, and the uncle of Roman Reigns, would be the logical person to call if you wanted to get an “elder” involved in The Bloodline/MFT storyline.
Rikishi himself has added fuel to this fire on his “Rikishi Fatu Off The Top” podcast. He has stated multiple times that he would be willing to return to the company to serve as a “Wise Man” for a unified Bloodline, but only if the creative was right and the fans truly wanted it. He has even called on the WWE Universe to make “Bring Back Rikishi” signs at live events to show their support.
While the cancellation could very well be due to a legitimate personal issue, the timing is undeniably intriguing. If a surprise appearance at SummerSlam is indeed planned, it is highly unlikely that Rikishi would reveal that information ahead of time. For now, fans will have to wait and see if the patriarch of the Anoa’i family makes his presence felt during one of the biggest wrestling events of the year. Best wishes to Rikishi, whatever the “unforeseen circumstances” are.
