Becky Lynch’s heel turn might not have gone how WWE management expected but it was one of the big highlights of SummerSlam for the fans watching at home and the fans in attendance at the Barclays Center.
It came across as if WWE management expected her to get booed when she attacked Charlotte Flair but they got the opposite reaction. Many fans have remarked that she came across as a super babyface and former WWE Superstar Bully Ray/Bubba Ray Dudley agreed.
He said the following on Sirius XM’s Busted Open Radio with Dave Lagreca:
“What I saw last night was I saw Becky acting like Stone Cold Steve Austin and getting the crowd reaction like a Daniel Bryan. If that continues [then] wow. This quote unquote heel turn is not going to go the way they want to. The more Becky does these things, the more people are going to love her. I don’t think Becky can do any wrong right now. Let’s say the powers that be are like ‘holy crap, we didn’t expect that to happen. We thought everybody was gonna boo last night.’ What are they gonna have her do tonight? Is she gonna come out and crap all over the audience?”
It’s an interesting situation to be in and it should be obvious to WWE management that fans are not going to turn on Lynch. At this point, it seems like the best thing to do is to ride this wave and allow Lynch to become the top female on the brand and slowly turn Flair heel. We’ll see if they do that on Tuesday night.
