WWE parted ways with The Ascension back in December 2019 after several months of the tag team being inactive.
Their last match under the WWE banner saw them drop a loss to Heavy Machinery on an episode of WWE Main Event on April 8, 2019.
“We just got our new name basically, thankfully enough. We were going to use ‘FKA’ for the time being just because we liked that. We knew everybody just knew us as The Ascension for the longest time, and to jump off [of that], we couldn’t really figure it out for a while.
We’d been talking back and forth so much, going through all of these other ideas and it kinda got presented to us the other week via interview… do you want to tell him? The Awakening, it’s like it’s the next step up from The Ascension.”
The former WWE stars have yet to sign with any promotion yet, but once things go back to normal after the world deals with the coronavirus, they’ll be able to test out the market and find a landing spot.
Konnor and Viktor also talked about how the virus impacted them being able to sign with a promotion once their non-compete clause with WWE expired in February. You can check out the full interview here.
