Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows, The Good Brothers, weighed in on the recent WWE releases, including R-Truth and Carlito, expressing a mix of understanding based on their own experiences and questioning the perceived company direction under TKO. Speaking on their “Talk’n Shop” podcast, the duo drew parallels to their own past WWE firing and commented on the narrative around roster age.
With the news of R-Truth and Carlito’s contracts not being renewed fresh in the wrestling world, Anderson acknowledged the fan confusion: “We keep reading these things like what we don’t know as well as anybody else knows. Nobody knows what really happened.” However, he also stated, “It wouldn’t surprise me nowadays, because it’s not the WWE anymore guys. It’s a company called TKO. They operate.”
Doc Gallows then shared his own perspective, referencing TKO’s reported debt and recent stock sales by executives. He also brought up their own sudden WWE release in 2020: “My son, Cade, said, ‘Dad, R-Truth just wrestled John Cena, and they fired him.’ And I got a little son. Do you remember when Uncle Carl and I were in the WrestleMania main event with The Undertaker and got fired 11 days later? It happened. Sh*t happens.” Gallows also mentioned hearing that R-Truth might not have agreed to a new deal, rather than being outright fired.
The conversation touched on WWE’s roster philosophy. Gallows recalled, “I remember they like, they contradicted themselves, because they said, ‘Well, you know, we don’t care how old guys are, as long as they can go.’ And then I heard Nick Khan, shortly after that, said, ‘We need a younger roster,’ which there’s both sides of the coin are, right? So maybe that has some play with it.” He added his frustration with how that perception affected them previously: “That was something that bothered us, because I was like, we’re younger than a lot of these guys. We’ve just been on TV longer, and they’re going, ‘Well, you guys are getting older.’ No, we’re not. We’re the same age as this, this guy right here, he just made it two years ago. I’m sorry. I’ve been on TV for 20 years. Excuse the f*ck out of me.” Anderson confirmed they didn’t hear such comments to their faces.
Ultimately, Anderson suggested that talent like R-Truth could thrive outside WWE. “All I know is that Ronnie could make a lot of money and have a lot of fun on the outside, for sure,” he said. Gallows echoed this, extending an open invitation for both R-Truth and Carlito to appear for their Lariato Pro Wrestling promotion.
