The reason for bringing Punk on the show was to increase viewership as the premiere episode drew just 49,000 viewers. His first show where he gave his take as an analyst and was advertised for drew 180,000 viewers.
This past Tuesday’s episode dropped 33% to 121,000 viewers as he didn’t appear on the show. According to Zager, part of the idea for the show is to have surprise moments, which is exactly what they did with Punk’s addition.
“Part of what we’re doing with this show is shock. You heard that natural reaction from our control room not believing that this was really happening. We wanted to make this a surprise. We wanted to make this a moment.”
“We had to buck the trend and not let it leak. It was the tightest circle of people to ever know about something that we’ve done.”
