Frank Mir says the UFC had plans for him to fight Brock Lesnar at Madison Square Garden in New York

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir stated in an interview with Fox Sports.com that the UFC had plans for a trilogy fight between he and Brock Lesnar when Lesnar was in talks with the UFC.

“So knowing that I’d be able to fight him for a third time, I could catapult and feed off of that and bring a lot of attention. I know there was talk about Madison Square Garden was in the conversation so I knew a fight with Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir would be contingent to fight in that area. So all kind of opportunities would be opening up.”

It should be noted that MMA is illegal in New York, but during the conversation between Brock and the UFC, the New York State Legislature were in talks about passing a bill that would see MMA be legal in the state.

“I think Brock Lesnar, because who he is outside of the UFC and mixed martial arts, he has a bigger name than (Antonio Rodrigo) Nogueira does. Still to this day because of the notoriety from pro wrestling,”

Mir takes on Todd Duffee (9-2) at UFC Fight Night 71 tomorrow night (Wednesday) in the main event.
