It looks like John Cena’s days as a Smackdown-exclusive Superstar could be limited. According to There has been a creative pitch presented where Cena would be a “free agent.” The idea would be to have him switch back and forth between Smackdown Live and Monday Night Raw when his schedule permits.
Cena, who has not appeared on WWE programming since WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, has been off working on Hollywood projects. Season two of his FOX reality show “American Grit” premiered on Sunday and he is scheduled to film the sequel to “Daddy’s Home” this year. Interestingly, WWE did not promote the show during the first season of “American Grit” but there have been several commercials airing on Raw, Smackdown Live and on the WWE Network for season two.
He is scheduled back on the 7/4 edition of Smackdown Live and he is listed on advertising for the Survivor Series in November. WWE needs as much star power as possible on Raw to boost sagging ratings. Cena’s WWE-related appearances are already limited so it would make sense to use him on Raw whenever he is available.
