Future Plans For The AEW World Tag Team Championship Revealed

A new report has shed light on the potential future direction for the AEW World Tag Team Championship, currently held by The Hurt Syndicate. The long-term plan reportedly involves their rivals, FTR, eventually winning the titles.

AEW Tag Team Titles May Be Heading To FTR

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported on the creative plans for the tag team division. “Right now last we heard the belts may get to FTR and are supposed to,” Meltzer wrote, indicating that a title change is the intended direction for the storyline.

A Non-Traditional Title Change For The AEW Belts

The report also noted that the championship change might not happen in a straightforward match. Meltzer stated that AEW “may do some sort of a deal and not just have it done clean in a regular tag match with other ideas being talked about.” This suggests a complex or controversial finish could be in the works for the eventual title match.

The report on the long-term plans for the titles comes as the tournament to crown the next challengers for The Hurt Syndicate is nearing its conclusion. The final of the tag team title eliminator tournament is now set, with FTR scheduled to take on the team of “Brodido” (Brody King & Bandido) on an upcoming episode of AEW Collision. The winner will challenge The Hurt Syndicate for the AEW World Tag Team Championship at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on August 24.
