The Godfather Reveals He Knew Something Was Wrong With The Undertaker After His Streak Ended

WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather shared his unique perspective on one of the most shocking moments in WWE history: the end of The Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak. Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, he revealed his surprise at the outcome and his deep concern for his friend’s well-being in the immediate aftermath of the match.

The Godfather, a longtime close friend of The Undertaker, explained why the end of the streak at the hands of Brock Lesnar caught him completely off guard. “It didn’t break my heart, but I was surprised Taker lost to Brock in the way that he did,” he said. “Because I was with him that day… we don’t talk about wrestling. And so I never knew that day that he was going to drop it.”

A Friendship Beyond Wrestling

He elaborated on the nature of their friendship, which is famously part of the backstage group known as the Bone Street Krew (BSK). “The funny thing about me and him, we talked about everything in the world, but we don’t talk about wrestling,” The Godfather stated. “We’ve been through so much together in life, kids, marriage, life, money, you know, problems that you know we got more to talk about than wrestling.”

This disconnect from the wrestling side of their lives meant he was as stunned as any fan in the arena when the referee’s hand hit the mat for a third time.

Concern For a Friend

His surprise quickly turned to concern when he saw The Undertaker the following day. “I didn’t see him till the next day, and I was leaving for the airport… and I’m like, ‘Taker, you alright?’ He goes, ‘No. He goes, ‘I’m going to the hospital,'” The Godfather recalled. “He wasn’t there. I know him real well. You know, he wasn’t there.”

The Godfather learned that his friend had suffered a serious injury during the match. “He got a really bad concussion in that match,” he revealed. “And he don’t, like, even remember the whole, the whole match. He don’t even remember it.”

The Undertaker’s legendary undefeated streak at WrestleMania ended at 21-1 on April 6, 2014, a moment that is still debated by fans. While The Undertaker would compete at several more WrestleManias, he has since retired from in-ring competition and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022.
