The Spear is one of the most iconic finishing moves in wrestling history, and the man who made it famous, Goldberg, has a definitive take on who should carry it into the next generation. In a recent interview with CBS Sports, the WWE Hall of Famer gave his full endorsement to Bron Breakker and claimed others only started using the move to diminish his own legacy.
The Heir to The Spear
When asked about The Undertaker’s recent suggestion that everyone but Bron Breakker should retire the move, Goldberg wholeheartedly agreed. “1,000%,” Goldberg stated emphatically. “He’s the only human being in the WWE that should be doing that. I know I’m gonna catch a lot of hell from that, but I don’t care, because that’s the truth. I mean, it is what it is.”
The Reason for The Spear’s Proliferation
Goldberg then shared his theory on why so many other top WWE superstars, such as Edge and Roman Reigns, began using the move during his later runs with the company. He believes it was a deliberate tactic to water down the move’s effectiveness and impact.
“Let’s just talk about the reason why everybody started doing the spear in the WWE,” Goldberg began. “I mean, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, right? I mean, let’s be perfectly honest, they did it to make mine look bad, or, you know, to downplay mine.”
Goldberg Ranks The Spears
When asked to blindly rank several famous Spears, Goldberg placed himself at number one and Bron Breakker at number two. He ranked Edge at number three, Rhino’s Gore at number four, and, in a pointed statement, placed Roman Reigns’ Spear at number five.
In his retirement match, Goldberg will wrestle for Gunther’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship this Saturday night at Saturday Night’s Main Event, live on NBC and Peacock.
