Xia Li worked the main event of Tuesday’s episode of WWE NXT in Orlando, Florida at the Capitol Wrestling Center on the USA Network when she challenged Raquel Gonzalez for the NXT Women’s Title.
Towards the end of the match, Gonzalez landed on her following a springboard senton splash. The match was briefly stopped while the medical staff checked on L. Gonzalez quickly went to the finish and pinned Li to retain the title.
Fightful Select reported that she “appeared okay” backstage following the bout.
WWE set up this match last week when Li had challenged for the title after Dakota Kai defeated Ember Moon in a singles match. Li is part of the Tian Sha stable with Boa and Mei Ying, but they were not at ringside for the match.
The company has confirmed that the next NXT TakeOver special will take place on SummerSlam weekend as it airs on Sunday, August 22nd. It’s unclear who will challenge Gonzalez for the title at this show.
