Governor Ron DeSantis Declares August 1st “Hulk Hogan Day” In Florida, Flags To Fly At Half-staff

Following the passing of wrestling icon Hulk Hogan on July 24, 2025, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared that Friday, August 1, 2025, will be officially recognized as “Hulk Hogan in Florida Day.” As part of the tribute, DeSantis has ordered all United States and Florida state flags at the Capitol in Tallahassee and at all government buildings in Pinellas County to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.

The announcement from the Governor’s office paid tribute to Hogan’s legacy and his deep connection to the state, where he was a longtime resident of Clearwater in Pinellas County. “His larger-than-life personality will be missed, as the “Hulkster” was an icon for many who grew up in the 80s and 90s as well as today,” the official memo stated. “He was a true Floridian through and through.”

Hogan, born Terry Bollea, passed away at the age of 71 after suffering an acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack. Medical reports released this week also indicated that Hogan had been privately battling atrial flutter and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. His sudden passing sent shockwaves through the wrestling world and beyond, with tributes pouring in from fans, fellow wrestlers, and major cultural figures.

Hogan was a fixture in his home community. He frequently made public appearances and operated local businesses in the Tampa Bay area, including the “Hogan’s Hangout” retail store and restaurant in Clearwater.
