GUNTHER Reportedly Set To Undergo Nose Surgery

Following the main event of Night One of SummerSlam, a new report has confirmed that the bloody nose suffered by GUNTHER at the end of his match with CM Punk for the WWE World Heavyweight Title was a planned angle. The spot was reportedly done to write the former champion off of television so he can undergo legitimate nose surgery.

GUNTHER’s Bloody Nose Was ‘100% Worked’

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed the situation, confirming a previous report that GUNTHER was dealing with a nose issue. He stated that the bloody finish to the match was a deliberate storyline device.

“I was told GUNTHER is having surgery on his nose, ” Meltzer said. “I was told that a couple of days ago. It was very clear from the finish that GUNTHER is having surgery on his nose pretty quick because they shot the angle. That busted nose thing, that was 100% worked blood and planned. It was totally planned.”

A Valiant End To A Dominant Reign

The angle occurred at the conclusion of the main event of SummerSlam Night One, where GUNTHER’s long reign as World Heavyweight Champion came to an end at the hands of CM Punk. The report of a “nose issue” requiring time off had emerged just prior to the show, and this angle appears to be the storyline explanation for his upcoming absence.

While GUNTHER is now set to take time off for surgery, the man who defeated him, CM Punk, did not hold the World Heavyweight Championship for long. In a stunning turn of events, Seth Rollins revealed his own recent injury was a work, and he immediately cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on the victorious Punk to become the new World Heavyweight Champion, ending Night One of SummerSlam in chaos.
